Soccer Talk Again

Remember the time, not so long ago, when two of Europe's giant powerhouse locked horns in a match in the UEFA competition?

I remember, watching Manchester United and Real Madrid, going head to head staging one of the most awe-inspiring match in recent memory. As a neutral of the match, it was really a feast for the eyes. No one can blame me though. The story was, it also drove a certain filthy rich Russian into liking football so much, he immediately took over a mediocre team and almost monopolise the football market.

Ronaldo, the Brazilian, scored a hat-trick on that day despite losing out in the spectacular 4-3 see-saw match.

And then I sat there thinking. Which team could inflict such scoreline to either one of the team and came out winning? Given how they played on that match, I could'nt think of any match.

Fast forward to today.. BAM!

Last week, Liverpool mauled Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League. And 5 days after that, Liverpool cruised to a 4-1 win over Manchester United. At Old Trafford. :D :D

Liverpool played defensively well today. They were so resolute. And from this and the Bernabeu showing, it is definitely a masterstroke by Rafa. Contrary to what the critics say, this is not negative football. I feel Rafa has received a lot of stick for playing defensive football when it's actually all part of the masterplan. Even so, Liverpool would'nt have scored this much just now. Common football sense will tell you that you can't always go all out, playing beautiful attacking football on opponent's ground especially against top European sides like Manure and Madrid. It's all about striking a balance; knows when to attack in numbers and know when to 'park a bus' in front of the goalpost. Rafa did what most of the other managers failed to do. Win at the toughest venues e.g. Old Trafford, Bernabeu, Nou Camp etc etc.

So everyone should rest off Rafa's case about boring negative football. Instead, give him the long overdue credit he has been cringing for. Because he deserves it.

Happy Day

Got back from my camp today and I can conviniently say that, through the rigourous trainings and guidance from the professional instructors, I think I'm ready to lead the bunch of freshies of the next batch.

But not only that, the games and fun I had was priceless. I even made more friends, cool people I never knew existed in Ngee Ann.

And you know what's the best part? My group's dance was chosen as the mass dance for the Freshmen Camp. Means that all of the freshies will be using my group's dance, something we were made to do during the camp yesterday. HAHAHA!

It's a couple dance with the music That Thing You Do by The Wonders so it sure will be alot of fun.

Omg. I just lurrrrveeee dancing man!

Shit. Did I said that out loud?

Soccer Talk

Had soccer in the morning and I suppose it's an enjoyable one because we ran out 5-3 winners in an 8 goal thriller!

Niap Fong, Wee Kwan and Si Liang agreed to help me play for my team as we lacked people.

The match was pretty intense with bodies cramped in such a small field. But I still scored 2 goals nonetheless, both opening and closing the scoring.

My first goal was a somewhat fluke goal and I knew nothing about it. The corner was drifted inside the box and Wee Kwan had his head to it and it deflected off my back. Next thing I knew, it rolled into the net.

Wee Kwan followed that up, with a neat powerful finish catching the keeper on his near post offguard. 2-0 to us and it's already half-time.

Second half got underway and for some reasons, we slacked in midfield and allowed the opposition to rally until they equalised to make it 2-2.

We lead again next, with Hid attempting a lob over the keeper. Thankfully, it went in.

But they equalised again with a fantastic finish from close range. And there's not much time left.

Just then, Si Liang released Wee Kwan free with a long punt and he twisted and turned his way through the defenders before placing a shot on the right bottom corner. There was, however, questions about Wee Kwan being in an offside position. But their second goal earlier was also adjudged to be offside so it's one-for-one.

And with minutes remaining, I raced through a free ball, after their defensive lapse from our goalkick, and lobbed with my left leg beyond the on rushing keeper. I celebrated like mad. I was happy I tell you. The ecstasy.

And we had enough in the tank to see off the game with a 2 goal lead. And that's the end.

Not bad eh, 2 goals in an 11-v-11 match.

Oh and I want to thank Niap Fong, Wee Kwan and Si Liang for coming. You guys were awesome.

Post-exam

I’m feeling great. First of all, I’m done and over with Year 1. Hopefully, with the right results in relating to the major exams I last had the week before, Year 2 will start without me repeating any modules. Speaking of that, I’m not totally confident about 2 out of my 3 papers. So I just hope my CA results would back me up real good. Yeah.

So the day after the final day of exam, we decided to party. At Zouk. You know, it’s not like me. I know. I mean, clubbing and grinding random chick ass in the dance floor isn’t really my thing. Oh believe me, if I had my way, I would spend that entire day in a mosque praying rather than dancing whilst rubbing crotch against girls’ butt for 4 hours. But after the relentlessly constant mental voices in my head about how this could be the only time me and my friends could spend the time together now that school is over, I said why not.

Oh boy. But if I have known how the party goes, I wish I wouldn’t have turned up at all. The party started off with a contest about Speaking Good English, where some unlucky hand-picked contestants have to go on stage and correct singlish sentences into standard English. I mean, come on give me a break. It’s ironic enough that the holidays promise no more studies of any kind and now we’re stuck in this club, learning General English.

The music wasn’t that particularly alighting too. It was pretty dull and unlively throughout and to me, most of the people just dance just for the sake of being in a club. In fact, I was more amazed by the fluorescent lights and that fascinating machine which sprays cold steam sporadically throughout.

Oh and don’t worry. I had pure Coke for drink. I was brought up by my parents that the wines and beers are ‘devil’ drinks and always had pictures of Satans producing them from their sharp-toothed mouths last time.

But after all this party, I’ll still be the decent guy I was. This is just a one-night thing.

And now the future schedules. Let see.. I have a professional 11v11 soccer match, with a referee officiating and the normal period of 90 minutes with 2 halves playing on a regular-size field, coming up on the 7th. Woohoo.

And oh, I forgot to mention. I’m taking up courses to be a Student Leader in school. Not just because of the meagre CCA points they offer but my job would be to welcome the new batch of Ngee Ann-ians [is that how people in Ngee Ann call themselves?] to feel at home. So it’s basically mingling and having fun and dirty games and crazy times with the newbies is what we’re about. I went to the trial in the first camp, and apparently I passed because they called me back for a return to the second camp on the 9th to 11th..

And one of the senior Student Leaders is worth checking out. She’s so cute, OMG. :)
